Pinning New Member

We welcomed Katie Reasoner of the Zionsville Education Foundation (ZEF) to our membership, presenting her with a ZWIN pin. Next month we hope to pin her ZEF partner, Lyle Browne. Katie handles events, fundraisers, and donations at ZEF, while Lyle handles communications and grants. Both do community outreach. Katie was excited to share that ZEF distributed $30,000 in grants this week. They hope these will impact a large number of kids. ZEF’s best day of year is when they award their grants!

Business & Community Updates

  • On October 26, ZWIN will be hosting a luncheon at the new town hall for town employees. Look for the Signup Genius to sign up for what you’d like to bring or how you’d like to help. Just like last year, we will offer lunch to the fire department, police department, and town hall employees (parks, etc.). It’s from 11- 1, and we will be serving pulled pork sandwiches. To help, please bring paper products, desserts, salads, sides, and drinks. We will greet our guests and eat alongside them. Please bring food by 10:45. We anticipate 70 guests. Any leftovers we will package up and deliver to fire houses.
  • Jill King announced that we are collecting gently used or new purses for Project Purse. Jane Crawford is passing out a flyer with a list of items to stuff the purses with. Members can purchase these toiletries and beauty products online from Amazon in bulk or on their own. If you buy from Amazon, it can be shipped directly to Project Purse. To collect purses, please bring them next month or to them meeting on Dec. 14 from 11:30-1:30. We will meet at Sullivan Munce – not ZUMC – to compile everything. Jane will put the information and link on Facebook. We encourage everyone to tell their friends and advertise on social media so we can collect lots of nice purses to donate! We will also be adding jewelry leftover from our June bling fling to the bags. 2017 ZWIN October36
  • Jane Crawford shared that her daughter is in the Gregory Hancock Dance Theater performance of the Nutcracker this season. It’s a different version, where Clara is homeless girl. It’s a beautiful tale told with contemporary music, and the audience is encouraged to clap with songs. She says the story speaks to our times and touches on bullying. The price of ticket is $5 for kids.
  • Kathy Wood is working with Str8up Ministries. It’s a grassroots organization that one of her clients and his wife started. It’s purpose is to help urban high school youth. For their upcoming fundraiser, they can use high school kids to do some service. Please let her know if you’d like more information. The event is October 28 at the Colts complex.
  • Christmas in the Village. Erica Carpenter, Debbi Kuller, Kate Swanson, and Tracy Phillips are on the Christmas in the Village planning committee. Ladies night will be in front of Erica’s story December 7 – Thursday night. ZWIN members can volunteer, and it counts as a ZWIN function! They need 4-6 people to set up in the store and be out front to serve hot chocolate.
  • Leann Akard reminded everyone of the Boone Village Halloween Party on October 26. There will be pumpkin painting contest! You can set up a table and give out candy. Pumpkins for Purpose allows each organization that has a table to get money per each vote cast for their pumpkin. Akards gives a cash prize to the winner. It’s a fun charity fundraiser!
  • Lastly, Kathy Wood shared that she is loving seeing everyone in the news! – Lona Newton was in the Current – fabulous work and news coverage!

One-Minute Elevator Speeches

This month, half of our members are invited to give one-minute “elevator speeches” about their businesses. The other half of the group will go next month. This is a great way to learn about one another and practice condensing our marketing messages!

A few highlights from what each speaker said follow.

  • Lona Newton: I have a placement service for helping seniors in senior care. According to the CDC, those 85 and older are the largest growing generation. In 2012, there were 5.9 million, and the total is expected to increase to 19.4 million by 2050!
  • Dawn Parker: I’m a health coach. I thought I’d share a testimonial from my website: An 82-year-old in PA lost 26 pounds and doesn’t wake up tired anymore. What a difference diet and a few supplements make!  Her daughter wrote in – “thanks to Dawn’s compassion and knowledge, we have turned mom’s life around.”
  • Ingrid Cole:  She offers reflexology and Reiki, which work with the nervous system to help the body relax and heal itself. It relieves stress and symptoms that come from it. I’m sure you know someone with stress related issues — I can help!
  • Jennifer Scott: I sell title insurance. I’ve done it for 16 years. I make sure there are no liens, property is free and clear, and get the new mortgage recorded. Her office is in CVS plaza. A good referral is a homeowner buying, selling, or refinancing!2017 ZWIN October24.jpg
  • Amber Trowbridge: I connect people who are trying to improve their lives through fitness. Her passion is to provide clients with tools and confidence to know their strength and what their bodies are capable of. Her group develops personal goals, such as increase fitness level, gain strength, flexibility, change body composition. Talk to her to find the best trainer for you. For new clients, unlimited free classes for rest of October
  • LeAnn Akard: I have a family owned and operated hardware store and party rental. It started on Main Street. They have staples, electrical, plumbing, yawn and garden, expanded gift section, things you won’t find in big box stores. Take and teach responsibility! They provide a supportive work environment. Akards’s is a proud sponsor of community events and nonprofits. All buying decisions are made locally to offer support community.
  • Kathy Wood: I help people buy and sell homes all over Indy, with a focus on Zionsville. Century 21 Scheetz is currently number one in Zionsville. This is Kathy’s 5th year. If you know anyone needing to downsize, there are lots of options for them. If you have a first time home buyer, she loves helping through that journey. Her office is in the village, the little yellow house.
  • Erica Carpenter: If you have been watching the news like I have, you’re wondering who will be the next Joanna Gaines? When there are no more episodes, come see me. I offer it right here in Zionsville.
  • Debbi Kuller: My goals are exceeding client expectations, building long term relationships, with a key focus on community and volunteerism. She recently received the community One Vision award – based on community service. She’s grateful they allow her to do it within work! Whether working with family or business and card processing or home equity, hopefully you will come see me and Old National will be your bank for life!
  • Jane Crawford: Crawford Inventory. With all the property destruction in the news from weather events, it’s important to take inventory of your belongings. She helps inventory belongings in home and place in a spreadsheet. She’s a peace of mind partner, so when you are traveling, if you turn a claim in to an insurance agent, we can recover as best as possible.

Upcoming Meetings

Kathy has been in contact about human trafficking in Hamilton County. She is trying to get a panel in to talk to the community, since the problem is just growing. We will let you know when. It will probably held at town hall.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our next meetings:

  • November 9, regular monthly meeting at 11:45 at Zionsville United Methodist Church. If you didn’t give a one-minute elevator pitch in October, please do so in November!
  • November 13, board meeting at Century 21 Scheetz
  • December 7, Christmas in the Village Ladies Night Out (need a few volunteers)
  • December 14, Pitch-in luncheon and Purse project at 11:30 at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center

See you then!
