Erica Carpenter, a Kentucky native, finds herself in Zionsville via Hanover College and a blind date that went really well. After five years in publishing, Erica stayed at home with her four boys. She first tried furniture painting while bidding on a silent auction item at a philanthropic event. Erica learned many paint techniques while attending furniture painting classes at the Susan Van Huss Design Studio in Indianapolis. The classes focused on decorative painting and faux finishes, while teaching how best to prep and finish the piece for a long life.

Ten years later, Erica was fortunate to be able to turn her hobby into a successful business. She founded fivethirty home in 2011 and opened the store at 20 North Main in September 2012. Many items in the store are hand painted and finished furniture, most painted with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk paint. Milk Paint is unique because it is a low-VOC, natural product that can be used to achieve a distressed look on furniture, on walls or for art projects. The store also carries a mixture of vintage finds, décor and repurposed goods for your home.

Erica is the official retailer of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in the Indianapolis area. Erica is certified to teach Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint classes which are held monthly at the store in Zionsville.

Stop by for some paint to spruce up your walls or furniture -- or for some beautiful home décor items.
