Project Purse: Jill King was in contact with Chelsea, the founder of Project Purse, and welcomed her to our meeting. Chelsea shared that an important part of the service they provide is personalized cards volunteers write to recipients. They share messages like “You deserve love and light.” She started her philanthropy by giving purses to homeless women, and then it grew to serving women in need, such as those getting support at hospitals who are being treated for or fleeing from abuse. They provide toiletries in the purses they give. For cancer patients, they may include Sudoku or other gifts. The personal handwritten notes are a key component. Chelsea suggests we buy a box of blank notes and write a whole box full to give them, with messages like “you are beautiful” or “you are worthy.” Our Project Purse event will be on Dec. 14. Everyone can bring donations and items to put inside. All purses that we pack will be distributed as part of a point-in-time homeless count. The purses coax people in to receive mental health or other services. We are still collecting jewelry to add as well. She encouraged everyone to email 5-10 friends and ask for purses or notes or personal items. We have no limit. They like to have bigger bags, which hold more. Little clutches can go inside the bigger purses.
